Obituary of John Bambrick Colby

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

John Bambrick Colby, 48 passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at his home. He was born on January 23, 1969, in Lake Placid, New York to Barbara A. and William R. Colby. He is survived by his Mother, Barbara, his brothers, Brad and Rhett and his sister, Glenn Mary, nephew Wil and niece Addyson, plus several cousins. John was a 1987 graduate of Lake Placid High School and was a Journeyman Plumber by trade. He previously owned and operated Tubby's Plumbing in Saranac, New York. John was a talented athlete and won many Ski Jumping competitions throughout his life and even made the U.S. Ski Jumping team, until he left because it wasn't "fun" anymore. He jumped for the love of the sport and when it became too regimented he knew that wasn't for him. John was funny, caring and had a heart of gold, especially for his animals, cats and dogs alike. Many years ago when he was living in South Carolina, he drove on his weekend off from work to find a home for a dog he found starving on the golf course. A family member ended up taking "Sandy" and she lived a long and happy life due to his efforts. He often picked up stray animals and gave them a safe and happy home. Please remember John as you knew him and not how he was living the last years of his life. He, like countless others succumbed to the grips of addiction and with that came the negative behaviors that tend to push people away. We all knew who he was and we missed him dearly. We know he was still in there but he couldn't find his way out. No matter what, he mattered and he mattered to his family who loved him dearly but didn't know how to help him.
