Herb and I are saddened by Bob’s passing. Bob and I spent many hours together trying to keep Mountain Artists of NY fresh, vibrant and afloat. After the group disbanded, it seemed that we always arrived at the Wilmington post office at the same time, catching up with each other in the parking lot. Bob was such a fine gentleman and a talented artist. I am a better artist and person to have known him.
My deepest condolences to SueEllen and his family.

No words will express my appreciation of this man, friend, teacher, and no doubt husband, father, and grandfather. Bob was on my first team at FLMS and helped me find my way there. One year, a little girl I had taught the year before came up to me and said, "Miss Oen, I'm sorry, but you aren't my favorite teacher anymore. Now Mr. Gettens is." I leaned into her and whispered, "No apology needed. He's my favorite too."
I feel lucky to have known him.

Sue Ellen, Robert and family: please accept my heartfelt condolences on the death of a very unique and gentle man. Bob was the ultimate example of a great teacher, a great friend and a person who always saw the best in people. I learned so much about how to treat my students from Bob. His sweet gentle humor was hard to match, but certainly an example to emulate. I will miss Bob in a very personal way. May he rest in the peace he so richly deserves.

Sue Ellen, Robert, and Family,
I was saddened to learn of Bob’s passing…the end of an era. From when I first met Bob, over 50 years ago when I was fresh out of college, I knew I met someone special. He was caring, creative, smart, funny, and dedicated to whatever he took on. Year after year I watched as he prepared lessons for his students…same history with fresh perspectives. I saw creativity in everything he did. I’m so glad to have had opportunities to see Bob when he was vacationing on Cape Cod with his family and when Carmella and I went to a wedding in Lake Placid in 2014. I was so fortunate to see the fruits of his rekindled passion for art. He shared his many paintings and his joy shined through. Bob will be missed but not forgotten.
Love,
Al

Dearest SueEllen and Robert, My saddest condolences on losing Bob. He was my very FAVORITE personality at FLMS. While I taught there, his humor, his expertise, his kindness and warmth touched my life deeply as well as all the students whom he taught. Though I haven't seen him for a couple of years (not since a party at the Jakolas), I often have thought of him with fondness. I look forward to being a part of a memorial with his art locally so that many of us who loved Bob so much can be a part of this. I am happy to volunteer my time to help as I know Candice and others will as well. My deepest love and sympathy to all of you! Libby Tulin
