Obituary of Beatrice June Colby

Beatrice June Colby, age 87 of Lake Placid passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid, New York after a short illness. She was born on June 6, 1935 in Chateaugay, New York, the daughter of George and Maude (LaPlant) Bracy. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Chateaugay. She moved to Lake Placid, NY in the early 1950's. She began working at the Lake Placid Club in the laundry department. She also worked many years at Villa Vespa Restaurant and at The Mirror Lake Inn laundry department. Bea was a past member of the Lake Placid Ambulance Squad and a life-long member of the Lake Placid American Legion Women's Auxiliary. She was always smiling, loved to spend time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and loved to go to McDonald's with her friends for coffee. She will be truly missed by her many friends in Lake Placid. Bea married the late Robert Colby, Sr. and raised their family and made their home in Lake Placid. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Whitney of Lake Placid and her son, Robert Colby, Jr.(Crystal) also of Lake Placid. Grandchildren: Barry (Crystal), Bobby (Ashley), Rachel (Joe), Kailani (Skyler), Kevin, Madison, Conner, Brooklyn and Summer; Great-Grandchildren: Evan, Phoenix, Charlie, Brogan, Bryce and Abel. Bea is also survived by her Sister, Esther Jones of Lake Placid and Sister-in-Law, Esther Bracy of Virginia. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her Daughter, Rebecca Jean Colby and her Great Grandson, Torin Colby. She is also predeceased by her Sisters: Ethel Belmore, Hazel Yeatman, Dorothy Hunkins, and her Brothers: Robert Bracy, Earl Bracy, Ross Bracy and Harold Bracy. There will be an hour of visitation at Clark's Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 5 pm to 6 pm. A brief prayer service will be held at 6 pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Spring at North Elba Cemetary in Lake Placid. A light reception at The American Legion Post 326 in Lake Placid will take place after the service.
